Just Read: “Fiber Fueled” by Will Bulsiewicz, MD, MSCI

Read February 22, 2021 – April 10, 2021

I’m a huge fan of learning about health and food science. Dr. Bulsiewicz is a practicing medical doctor who is board-certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology. He shares a ton of his research findings on Instagram and I knew this book would be a winner in terms of sharing unbiased research about the link between food choices and health. Now, to be clear – this is NOT a diet book. Diets, or calorie restriction meal plans – as most people think, don’t work for long term health and wellness; a shift should be made so that we think of the term diet as simply “the foods we choose to eat”.

What is it about?

Poop. Seriously, though. Dr. B is talking about gut health throughout this book and gives details on exactly what is happening inside your gut. He shares a ton of serious knowledge in the first part of the book and it’s everything you didn’t know you wanted to know about what the heck is going on in your gut. You’ll never look inside the toilet the same again.

Dr. B goes into some information about common misconceptions (such as the whole GLUTEN FREE debacle) and makes great suggestions on what is, and isn’t, important to supplement. At the end of each chapter, he includes footnotes that lead you to the scientific studies that support what he is discussing – unbiased scientific studies that aren’t funded by agencies with special interests in promoting an agenda.

What does it have?

  • How to: Heal Your Gut (BYE BYE IBS)
  • Food Sensitivities Explained
  • About: Soy, Gluten, Milk, & More
  • 4-Week Plan

I’m already following a whole food plant-based diet (remember we are thinking diet as in food choices not diet as in restrictions) and I found this to be super helpful and clarifying. You don’t have to be, or even want to be, following this lifestyle and Dr. B talks about this in different areas of the book. The point is, as the science shows, plant diversity is the key to health. You’ll learn how to get that diversity and how to make it fun. You can check out his website if you want to learn more about him and the gut revolution!

Is it worth reading?

Oh yeah, 100%. I would say even if you aren’t interested in changing your diet but are interested in learning about gut health, this is a great read. You don’t finish the book feeling pressured or guilty to change, you feel empowered with knowledge to make whatever choice you decide. The question I have for you is… do I do the Fiber Fueled 4 weeks???

      1. Haha. Thank you! Love the use of the word “Flooded.” Makes me feel like the hard work is worth it.
