Not me reading another Emily Henry novel. I feel like I always get around to reading her yearly pub but I’m a little behind. I read this but I still need to check out last year’s Happy Place. The reading rut of 2023 really had me not picking up anything but don’t worry… I definitely have it on hold at the library – me and hundreds of other people in the Denver metro area, lol!

What is it about?

Daphne’s getting married.. well, she was getting married until her fiancé decided he was in love with his best friend. After moving to a small town with her now ex, this librarian is completely lost for what to do next. Thankfully, so is her new roommate. They’re both fresh off a brutal breakup and barely scraping by. Even though Daphne loves her job, she can’t help but wonder if she should move back east to be closer to her mom and further away from her ex who thinks it’s totally cool to invite her to his wedding – yeah, same guy she was about to marry.

Miles is a bartender at a wine bar and his live-in girlfriend just left him for her best friend. He’s got a load of childhood trauma he’s carrying around and can’t help but feel like opening up to his ex drove her away… that and the fact that the driver of the getaway vehicle is the best friend she fell in love with. He’s pretty content on listening to his sad songs and disassociating but starts to change his tune as he warms up to his new roommate who he let move in because, well, she had nowhere else to go.

What does it have?

  • Book About Book People (Librarian)
  • Fake Dating
  • Making Friends As Adults
  • So I’m Single – Now What?

This. Was. Something. It really was a funny story – funny, heartwarming, and I found it to be incredibly realistic because tell me you or someone you know hasn’t been blindsided by your significant other having an opposite sex close friend that they suddenly admit to having a thing for and… a tale as old as time!

Is it worth reading?

Oh yeah, 100%. I don’t know when I’ll read an Emily Henry book I don’t love but if the plot doesn’t speak to you… I’d recommend one of her other books I’ve enjoyed: People We Meet on Vacation, Book Lovers, or Beach Read.
