Is it possible I’ve unintentionally picked up another time-twisting novel? I was searching for my next read and decided to pick up a Reece’s Book Club pick because usually I enjoy them. Smale gets you in your head a bit here with a narrative following the poster human for overthinking. I thought I was bad but the lead in this is off the charts.

What is it about?

Cassie is in a career she doesn’t exactly love and is living a somewhat comfortably predictable life. Her experience can only be described as “meh” until she realizes that she can travel back in time whenever she makes a little mistake. Boyfriend breaks up with her? No problem, travel back and undo it. Say the wrong thing to a client? No problem, close your eyes and it’s as if it never happened. Get fired from work? You get the idea…

The problem with Cassie is that she feels like almost every interaction has some type of flaw and she continually wants to undo things. Seemingly undoing it all over and over again for a guy, she ends up being forced to face the fact that she is the common denominator in every situation. Cassie needs to decide whether she’s going to accept herself and the natural outcomes or continue to relive her entire relationship with one person and manipulate him to stay with her.

What does it have?

  • Time Travel
  • Overthinking Girlie
  • Breakup, makeup…breakup
  • Mythological References, The Greek Kind

While I did enjoy the introduction of Cassie and all of her quirks, she became pretty insufferable early on in the narrative. I’m not sure if it was her fixation on this one unremarkable guy or her lack of self-awareness but I couldn’t stand her most of the time. There was also excessive references to Greek mythology that would isolate someone who isn’t familiar with the heavy and not-so-heavy hitters… ::coughmecough::

Is it worth reading?

Honestly, I’m not mad I read this… borrow it from the library if it sounds like your jam. (It’s also now available on Kindle Unlimited.) What I am a little peeved about is the fact that I wrote this review in August 2023 and am just now posting it, LOL! More on that next time.
