Read August – September 2024
NetGalley and Barbour Publishing gave me access to this book prior to the pub date of September 1st but I really wanted to take my time with this one and try to read the devo as close as possible to how it’s intended – a once daily 5 minute addition to prayer time. This book has a really cool concept added in with the reading, let me explain.
What is it about?
The theme of the devotional is centered around healing, hence the title, and focuses on healing through prayer and reflection on scripture each day so that your relationship with others and your spiritual life can be renewed. We all have scars on our hearts that can impact how we treat others and ourselves; it’s important to do our part to heal in healthy ways. Brunsetetter, along with Thompson, provides a roadmap to healing and they don’t ignore that mental aspect that sometimes never quiets.
There are sections you’ll go through that speak to what’s necessary to heal different parts of yourself, addressing what may have caused the hurt to begin with, and each devo has the standard setup – Bible verse, anecdote, reflection – but there’s an addition to the page that makes it unique. At the bottom of each page is a little inspiration to add to a prayer jar! The advanced reader copy that I have doesn’t contain the instructions but even without that I completely understood the concept and I was able to create something special.
What does it have?
- Christian Devotional
- Healing The Whole Self
- Daily Reflection
- Easy Christian Crafts
I decided I would add the inspo at the end of each devotional with the scripture from that page on a slip of paper (or really a slip of index card because I have sooooo many from my teaching days) and gather them up to put in a jar. At a later time, when I’m in need of healing or a starting point to pray, I can grab a slip from the jar and use that as a starting point for my conversation with God.
Is it worth reading?
I enjoyed this one and think you can get something out of it as a Christian looking to address those parts of you that need some TLC. Now, I also recently finished one of Emily Henry’s newer rom coms so brb while I write the review…
